India approves world’s first DNA Covid vaccine Source:Adaderana India’s drug regulator has approved the world’s first DNA vaccine against Covid-19 for emergency use. The three-dose ZyCoV-D vaccine prevented symptomatic disease in 66% of those vaccinated, according to an interim study quoted by the vaccine maker Cadila Healthcare. The firm plans to make up to 120 million doses of India’s second home-grown vaccine every year. Previous DNA vaccines have worked well in animals but not humans. India has so far given more than 570 million doses of three previously approved vaccines – Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V. About 13% of adults have been fully vaccinated and 47% have received at least one shot since the beginning of the drive in January. Cadila Healthcare said it had conducted the largest clinical trial for the vaccine in India so far, involving 28,000 volunteers in more than 50 centres. This is also the first ...

9 FAVOURITE BUTH KADES IN COLOMBO- by Shifani Source:Yamu This week’s episode is a curry fest, and it made us at Traveler very hungry. At Nelum Kole restaurant on Slave Island in Colombo, Bourdain eats chicken curry, spicy potatoes, beetroot, and rice while he meets with Kumar Lopez, CEO of the Sri Lankan Press Institute. A trip to Nana’s Street Food produces assorted seafood dishes, while a journey up to Jaffna sees Bourdain eat one of his favorite meals—homemade crab curry, with a kick. As he notes, “The best food in Sri Lanka is always made by aunties—forces to be reckoned with.” His trip ends idyllically on Point Pedro Beach, feasting on fresh grouper and squid with local fishermen while they discuss the country’s future. And of course, it is all washed down with cold beer Starting out at YAMU I clamoured for a chance to review Colombo’s fanciest restaurants but after ...

[ad_1] Alphabetically speaking, we will now have to concoct yet another one-word description for the above, because we’re sick & tired of hearing by-names like Coronavirus, Covid, Catastrophic, Unprecedented, & many other12 & 13 letter adjectives that seem to be around, ad-nauseam.           We will not be able to blame anyone for this particular Virus. It will certainly not be exclusively antagonistic in Victoria. Everyone over a certain age will cop it, no matter where they live. There are no vaccines pre-planned, as they are still working on one for the present Pandemic.  WHO wrote the details shown below (I think, but really don’t know). However, this was sent to me by a good friend, Dallas Achilles & on behalf of eLanka, I thank him for it. Desmond Kelly.(Editor-in-Chief)  eLanka. ANOTHER VIRUS COMING ! As if we don’t have enough to worry about during these crazy ...

[ad_1]   “ISLAND IN THE SUN” – By Sarah Jameel (Introduction by Des Kelly) Although it has the identical title as a very popular song of old, this true story of Ceylon then/Sri Lanka now, as written by Sarah, and kindly forwarded to this writer, by the Editor of the Burgher Association of Melbourne, my good friend Neville Davidson, this would have to be one of the best, most nostalgic, endearing accounts of life, as we lived it, in My Lovely Island Home.  Excellently written, bringing  back so many precious memories, treasured moments that so many of us shared, before the reluctant exodus forced upon us by the powers that be, of a particular era, put an end to our enjoyment of the Island In The Sun, OUR Lovely Island Home aptly named Ceylon then, Sri Lanka now. [ad_1]   A very sad video indeed. This young doctor-to-be, dying of a brain tumour, and yet facing death so bravely, being helped up to sing (beautifully) on stage with one of Sri Lanka’s best, most compassionate entertainers, Keerthi Pasqual leaving most of her audience, and me, in tears, knowing that this was the last song she would sing before she died, and this, she did, leaving us all heartbroken. May she now rest in peace.   [ad_2] Source link ...

[ad_1]   I have always believed that “reading” is an education in itself. One can always end up in the most Senior Classes in School or College, enter top Universities around the planet, become Professors on various subjects and have Intelligence Quotas that hit the roof, yet still not know what is happening in this World of ours.   This being the case, it comes back to the fact that when something of this nature comes to us on the Internet, we READ & recoil in the sheer wonder of it all. It feels good to be able to share the knowledge with many thousands of people, in my case, especially with the members and readers of eLanka, a website that I am very happy & proud to be part of. Have to admit that I knew nothing of the subjects covered by this very interesting post, sent to me ...

[ad_1] I have written so much about Ceylon (then), Sri Lanka (now), it didn’t seem fair that not much was said about this great brown Land that so many of us Sri Lankans migrated to, and so many more are hoping to make their second home. Then, to the fore, he comes again, my good friend Max Gerreyn from W.A., one huge part of this Island Continent that CANNOT boast about being host to Corona Virus, unlike the other States, and especially Victoria, who let the bug in, and in turn, is now in the process of kicking it out.           Here, for each & everyone of our Lankan/Aussies, 8s a most interesting look at “STRALIA” which I hope you will enjoy. Thank you Max, for forwarding this to me. Always appreciated.  Desmond Kelly.(Editor-in-Chief)  eLanka. map illustrates how large Australia is compared to other countries.                           The following ...
